Catalogue Note

A very similar pitcher described by Tiffany as "Tropical Pitcher, mounted and chased with cactus, banana and other tropical plants" is illustrated by John Loring in Magnificent Tiffany Silver, 2001, p. 194, where it is noted that another was shown at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago.  The chasing may be attributable to Frank Malsch, who signed the Tiffany "Tiger Hunt" tankard in 1905, sold Sotheby's, New York, 22 June 2004, lot 95, where the background is also vigorously chased with palm and cacti.
