Catalogue Note

According to Gorham's Martelé archives, as reproduced by Larry Pristo, the present bowl was completed on 18 May 1916.  The bowl was raised in 38 hours by silversmith John M. Sorum and was chased by an unnamed chaser for an additional 112 hours.  The net factory price at the time of completion was $315, but was revised in 1918 to $375.  Another, slightly smaller version of this bowl with gilding was completed in August 1910.
