the broad serene face with wide eyes deeply drilled at the corners, under pronounced arched brows, and slender ears pierced for ornaments; the reverse with a wide rim and written with San Nicolas de Ranchos.

Provenance

Louise Bryant Collection, acquired prior to World War II, and donated to the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History in the late 1930's, transferred to the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1989-1990

Cincinnati Art Museum, sold by Order of the Board of Trustees,  (Sotheby's, New York, November 15, 1994, lot 127)

Condition

Overall good but has old repairs and some newer fills on dents/ chips, fill on bridge of nose and upper lip, some patches of fill on PR check under eye. -- some fill on the forehead.
