Condition
Overall very good original condition. The parchment exterior of this work is in very good condition. With some small areas of discoloration visible in the catalogue illustration, which are primarily the result of the original adhesive discoloring the paper, which is consistent with the natural aging process. With minor lifting along the vertical seam under the fall-front to the proper left side, which is visible in the catalogue image. Some minor lifting to each of the vertical seams (approximately one inch), the parchment immediately above the fall front. The leather elements are executed in red Hermès leather, and remain in excellent condition. The feet with a few minute surface scratches. The interior of the secretaire fitted in an elegant oak. The oak with a few minor surface scratches, but it seems that this secretaire was rarely used. The top surface of the fall front is inlayed with orange leather as seen in the catalogue illustration. With a few scattered shallow surface scratches, and some white discolorations. The red leather and parchment letter organizer to the interior is removable and in excellent condition. With key. This lot, formerly in the collection of the artist, has been very sensitively maintained and very gently used.

Catalogue Note
Dupré-Lafon, throughout his lengthy career, made a consistent and distinctive modern statement in his furniture design by selecting the finest modern materials. In response to the scarcities following the second World War, Dupré-Lafon, like other furniture designers, was forced to minimize the amount of his favored primary materials. However, the shortages had no meaningful impact on his designs and instead showcased his mature style. With the handcrafted leather by Hermès less readily available, it became a contrasting detail to the clean parchment exterior of this masterwork, formerly in the designer’s personal collection.
This lot is sold with an original certificate of authenticity from the legal successors of Paul Dupré-Lafon.
