- patinated bronze
Provenance
Acquired from the artist by the present owner
Literature
June Kompass Nelson, Harry Bertoia: Sculptor, Detroit, 1970, cat. no. 83 (for a related sculpture)
Condition
Overall in excellent condition showing a rich patina throughout the work. With some minor surface dirt to the recessed portions. The design of this work incorporates a single sculptural cluster inset within the bush form, as seen in the catalogue illustration. The patination across the bush is consistent and with some very light discoloration to the top surface of the foot, which is commensurate with the natural aging process of the material. A very nice form in a very good scale, and with nice detailed elements.

Catalogue Note
Jeffrey Osborne was Vice President of Design at Knoll, 1976-1986. Early in his career at Knoll, Osborne struck up a friendship with Harry Bertoia, and in 1967, on one of his cross-country trips to Knoll from his regional offices in Michigan, Osborne selected this sculpture in Bertoia's Pennsylvania studio and paid for it over a two-year period. This work is being sold with a copy of the final letter receipt from Bertoia in 1969.
