Description
- George Nakashima
- Unique Eight-Drawer Cabinet
- English walnut
Provenance
Acquired from the artist by the present owner
Condition
Overall very good original condition. This work was commissioned from Nakashima by the present owner as a storage piece. The top two drawers with walnut flatware dividers, and the rest of the drawers were designed for flat artwork storage. The reverse of the case is not finished, and therefore the intent of the piece is to be used against the wall. The reverse with three minor areas of scratches, the longest measuring approximately three inches. Once the piece is properly placed against the wall, the scratches are not visible. The case of this piece is executed in a highly figured wood and the bold caramel tones are evident throughout, giving the work a significant depth. The wooden pull handles were designed by Nakashima for the piece, and are detailed in the drawing that accompanies this work. The work has been careful preserved by the present owner and shows on very gentle use.
