Condition
Overall very good original condition. The headboard was part of a larger collection acquired directly from Nakashima by a New York family. The present headboard was designed for a full-sized bed as the standards below headboard measure 54 inches apart. However, because of overall length of the headboard measure 83 inches, it is possible that the headboard could be used with a modified larger bed frame. This lot is a headboard and does not include a bed frame. The terminals of the standards presently fitted with castors (not shown in the catalogue illustration) which can be removed. The wood selected to execute this headboard with beautiful figuring and rich coloration. The single key adds depth to the overall design. With a few scattered surface scratches to the reverse of the headboard as well as the lower portion of the feet, which is consistent with use. With two minor edge losses measuring 1 ½ inches to the reverse of the headboard along the top edge. These are difficult to see when the headboard is viewed from the front. Otherwise the headboard shows very gentle use with a few scattered surface scratches to the front side. The headboard is signed by George Nakashima and bears the client’s name.
