Condition

Overall fair condition. Considerable scratches throughout the work. Cracking and unevenness to the surface throughout the frog which are the result of age and exposure to the elements. With a 12 inch crack adjacent to the edge of the variable seat back to the proper left side of the work. This fissure is the result of lifting and would benefit from professional restoration to stabilize. Evidence of re-painting and prior restoration throughout which shows presently slightly darker in tone. With areas of prior restoration of horizontal orientation across the legs of the frog, as seen in the catalogue illustration. Sotheby’s would recommend restoration to this piece to stabilize and minimize the condition issues. Some of the areas of restoration are visible in the catalogue illustration.
