Condition

Overall very good condition. This is a very sculptural work that presents more vividly in tone than in the catalogue illustration. There are some imperfections in the glazed surfaces which are inherent in the making and not a result of condition. When examined under blacklight, the vase shows no evidence of prior restoration. This piece show great depth in the sculpted body, which is heightened by the distinct tones used in the glaze work. The lighter tone grey glaze in the lower recesses of the body of the vase are articulated with a craquelure glaze. The high points are then executed using an elegant painting of rich brown tones and heightened by icy blue glaze color. A superb example of the artist’s highly sculptural vase forms.
