Catalogue Note
Completed in 2006, Ju Ming’s bronze sculpture is one of the pieces from his Living World Series – The Skirt Story. Compared with the other works in the series, the figure epitomizes a sense of motion, accentuated by her sweeping yellow skirt and animated pose. The celebration of female liberation in modern society is thoroughly presented in her jubilant pose and outstretched arms, almost primitive in style. This exemplary sculpture not only utilizes the positive attributes of the bronze material, but also highlights the artist’s coherent artistic manifestation. Collectively, the sculpture successfully moves the viewer and rejuvenates the bronze material as a modern medium of the 21st Century.
