Catalogue Note
Painted at the height of Corcos' career and international success, the present work was painted shortly after Corcos returned to Florence after spending seven years in Paris, where he had earned a fashionable reputation and high profile commissions through his dealer, Adolphe Goupil. It relates to his portrait of Contessa Frankestein Sederini, who posed for her portrait in precisely the same place on her seaside terrace. The models pictured here are two of Corcos' favorite and reappear in a number of compositions.
