Catalogue Note

Paul-Joseph-Victor Dargaud's Paris studio was located at 34, boulevard de Clichy not far from the the building site of Sacré-Coeur, Montmartre. The present work was painted in 1878, three years after the basillica's foundation stone was laid, and captures the complex construction efforts that would continue through 1914.
