Condition

The overall base of the arc de triomphe is set with poles and chain, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Five poles are missing and some chains are broken and lacking. Tarnishing around base with extensive wear to gilding.

Catalogue Note

Ferdinand Barbedienne died in 1892, at which time his nephew took over the firm and renamed the celebrated French foundry Leblanc-Barbedienne.  

Commissioned in 1806 after the victory at Austerlitz by Emperor Napoleon I at the peak of his fortunes the Arc de Triomphe remains one of the most celebrated monuments in Paris.
