Description

the canted corners with ebony and boxwood stringing beneath elaborate chutes with shells and Neptune masks, the side panels each with one shelf and three radiating compartments, one chute has been removed to reveal the mark FB and number 1540 from the bronze master model. 

Condition

Overall in good condition. This piece is sturdy and well-made with solid mahogany panels at back and decorated with expensive wood veneers. The gilt bronze shows surface dirt and wear consistent with age and environmental effects. The central mirror plate showing craquelure from its silvered or mercury backing. The veneers with the usual minor nicks dents and scratches. Both shelves showing losses of tulipwood veneer. Each upper corner of mirror with a crack as a result of construction. The upper crest with a concave opening and one filled hole indicating that this area was formerly fitted with a light.
