Condition

Overall in very good condition. With some minor wear and scratches to gilt bronze surfaces consistent with age and use. The marble with scattered edge chips also consistent with age and use. The glass door with a crack across diameter, but remains stable and functional.

Catalogue Note

Other Louis XVI examples of this model are known, and in the permanent collections like the Musée Carnavalet in Paris and the Wallace Collection in London.  Interestingly,  other examples are known with slight variations to the standing figures, thought to be the young King Louis XVI protected by Minerva.
