each set on Patricia green marble bases, the candelabras with three putti holding aloft a ribbon-tied lily bouquet, the underside of each impressed Gagneau/MADE IN FRANCE.

Condition

Overall in good condition. The gilt bronze surfaces with some surface dirt and tarnishing. The patinated bronze figures with surface scratches and nicks. Three pollen stems lacking to cast lilies. The marble bases with edge nicks and surface dirt.

Catalogue Note

The eighteenth-century model (made circa 1770) after which the present lot is based can be found in the Wallace collection, inv. no. F138/9.  The preemminent firm of Gagneau Frères was established in 1800 at 25 rue d'Enghien and later at 115 rue de Lafayette in Paris. They exhibited fine-quality decorative light fixtures at the major international exhibitions of the nineteenth century.
