  • height: 36 5/8 in.; width: 5 ft. 8 1/2 in.; depth: 26 1/2 in.
  • 93 cm; 174 cm; 67 cm
surmounted by a white veined marble top above three frieze drawers, the cupboard doors opening to a mahogany interior.

Condition

Overall in fair condition. The bronze casting is not of the highest quality. The carcass with the usual numerous scratches, dents and nicks consistent with age and use. Tarnishing to gilt bronze, scratches and minor chips to marble top.

Catalogue Note

The present commode is based on the model executed by the eighteenth century ébéniste Guillaume Benneman (reçu maître1785), which was adapted from a model by Joseph Stöckel (reçu maître1775) and supplied to Queen Marie Antoinette in 1786 for the Salon des jeux at Fontainebleau.
