Condition

Overall in good condition. Bronze with surface scratches, nicks and scattered oxidation points. Surface dirt throughout with resulting darkening. As stated in the cataloguing, these wall appliques have been electrified, however Sotheby's cannot confirm their electrical stability. The black enamel candle covers with scratches and abrasions that expose metal beneath.

Catalogue Note

The quiver backplate of the present pair of twin light wall appliques is originally and cleverly surmounted by a lion pelt, a decorative attribute from the Jean-Henri Riesener and Jean-François Oeben oeuvre, most notably found of the celebrated Bureau du Roi, now at Versailles.
