Condition

Overall in good condition, with finely cast bronzes. The carcass with the usual dents, nicks and scratches consistent with age and use. There is a loss of veneer of approx. 1" square to the back of the cabinet located at its lower left edge. The central Sevres style plaque painted with a lakeview and ruins shows overpaint to its giltbronze border, somewhat lacking high definition when compared to the flower hung basket located on each side.

Catalogue Note

A similar secrétaire à abattant sold in these rooms, April 19, 2007, lot 16 for $96,000.

The present lot can be compared to an eighteenth-century example in the Jones Collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum, accession number 1047:1-1882.  Of the same form, both secrétaires have been treated similarly:  inset with porcelain plaques and with comparable arrangements of gilt bronze mounts.
