Description

  • Edward F. Caldwell & Co
  • gilt bronze, marble
  • height 43 1/2 in.; diameter 25 in.
  • 110.5 cm; 64.5 cm
hung from four double chains terminating in entwined cornucopias, the alabaster dome carved in the round with bacchanalian scenes.

Condition

Overall in fair condition and presentation. The bronzeelements are well cast with an interesting double looped chain. There are the usual traces of wear and rubbing to gilding in few places, and with dirt that could be cleaned. The alabaster has no cracking. One can notice by looking inside the bowl several circular dots, possibly from filler when the bowl was being carved and due to original veining and thickness of the stone.
