Condition

Overall in good condition, but with visible wear in patina to high relief of sculpture. Most probably consistent with repetitive cleaning throughout the years. The gilt highlights are original to saddle and costume of sitter. The lasso is original as well, but one end is detached from the sitter's head.

Catalogue Note

Alfred Dubucand is a sculptor best-known for his animalier work in the Orientalist style.  He studied under Antoine Barye, Justin Lequien and Pierre Rouillard.  He was a regular exhibitor at the Paris salons from the late 1860s until 1883.
