Catalogue Note

Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811-circa 1885) was a German cabinetmaker who worked in Paris from 1840s onwards.  Diehl is known for his Napoleon III style designs for furniture and decorations that often incorporated the revival and orientalist fashions of the period.  This table is a hybrid of the Napoleon III style of the middle decades of the nineteenth century and the Japonisme of the 1870s.
