Catalogue Note

Mathurin Moreau, son and student of Jean-Baptiste Moreau, entered the École des Beaux-Arts at the age of nineteen, exhibiting at the Salon for the first time in 1848. He was regularly praised for his Salon contributions and obtained a number of distinctions, including a gold medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle.
