two volumes: (a) Recomandation de l'Estat de Religion, on paper, 122 leaves, 123mm. by 87mm., wanting 2 leaves after fol.98 and perhaps a gathering from the end, else complete, single column, 24-25 lines in black ink in a single bastarda script, capitals touched in yellow, rubrics in red, numerous 2-line initials in red, good condition, modern quarter brown calf over pasteboards, France, c.1500, slipcase; (b) Penitential Psalms, on vellum, 44 leaves, 103mm. by 73mm., wanting single leaves after fols.18 and 27 and a number after fol.44, small initials in red or blue, the larger touched in contrasting ink, one large initial 'D' in variegated gold on blue and red penwork (somewhat worn), overall good condition, Italy, fifteenth century

Item (a) was evidently made for a Franciscan nun, and contains a series of general contemplative texts, including twenty-four meditations on the Sacrament (fol.47v), forty prayers to Christ (fol.58r), and meditations on Christ's temptations in the desert (fol.70r), and others including a series of prayers to be said when putting on one's clothes in the morning (fol.102v).
