Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. There are a few minor areas of craquelure, including to the flag, the boy's white trouser on the left, the mast and the wooden rigging. The surface is slightly dirty but is in otherwise good condition. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV reveals an uneven varnish which makes the reading difficult to interpret. There appear to be a few flecks of retouching to the flag, the clouds, to the rigging, to the boy on the left's trousers and hand, and to the coat of the boy on the right. There may be one or two additional cosmetic flecked retouchings. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame with a canvas inset.
