Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. There are signs of craquelure along the left, upper and right edges and there are patches of light craquelure scattered throughout the sky and a further area in the foreground, only visible upon very close inspection. There are small spots of staining scattered across the canvas, most notable in the upper right quadrant and there are traces of discoloured varnish throughout the sky. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT Ultraviolet light reveals an opaque varnish. There is a large area of sweeping retouching in the sky near the upper left edge. There are also small areas of retouching scattered across the sky and in the foreground, and to some of the above mentioned craquelure; the animals and figures themselves remain largely untouched.
