STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. Generally the work is in good overall condition, clean and ready to hang. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV reveals an opaque uneven varnish which makes the reading difficult to interpret. There appear to be some old retouchings, including an area near the book and doll on the floor, an area around the smaller child's head and flecks to the clothes and face of the boy on the right, and to the woman's hair, arms and clothes. There may be a few additional flecks across the canvas, including to the chair and background far right and the window and table far left. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame.
