Condition

STRUCTURE Original canvas. The canvas undulates slightly in each corner. There is some craquelure in the left half of the sky and a faint line of craquelure running across the sky which appears to correspond with the weave of the canvas. A further small area of craquelure along the upper right edge. Otherwise the work appears in good overall condition. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT Under ultraviolet light there appears to be a small spot of retouching near the centre of the left edge and another above the tall plume of white spray of the wave in the left foreground. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame under glass; unexamined out of frame. Please telephone the department on 0207 293 5718 if you have any questions about the present work.
