Close inspection reveals some minor paint shrinkage in the sky. There seems to be an area of surface abrasion the left hand border just above the horizon. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV reveals extensive infilling to craquelure to the sky, upper left, and a few further flecks upper right; also retouching to frame abrasion along the upper edge and a few further flecks of infilling to the figures in the foreground. UV also reveals traces of an uneven varnish. FRAME Held under glass in a gilt plaster frame; unexamined out of frame.
