Condition
STRUCTURE
The sheet is sound and not laid down.
The edges of the sheet are discoloured but this would not be visible once mounted. The paper is a little cockled. There are two pinholes close to the centre of the upper edge of the sheet. The surface is in generally excellent original condition.
FRAME
This drawing is contained in a simple wood frame with a clean mount and under glass.

Catalogue Note
This sheet of figure sketches was made in preparation for Leighton's most famous picture, Flaming June (Museo de Arte de Ponce, Puerto Rico) painted in 1895. Several models are thought to have posed for the studies for this painting but these nude sketches appear to have been made from Leighton's favoured muse Dorothy Dene in two different poses curled in an armchair as though asleep.
