Oblong folio (330 x 445mm.), 45 lithographed plates with 57 views and scenes, by Lehnert, Lopez, Chénot and Bastin, all coloured by hand, original cloth, occasional slight spotting, binding slightly rubbed and marked, rebacked retaining original spine
Catalogue Note
A fully coloured copy of the first major colour plate book produced in Mexico.
The content of this Album pintoresco, in which, unusually, all of the plates are hand-coloured, is 35 full-page plates (the first 12 with gum arabic highlights), followed by 4 plates, each with 4 views, ending with 6 full-page plates of the Mexican-American war of 1846-47. The latter views are the largest single source of printed images based on the Mexican view of the war. Four of the views by Lopez form a panorama of Mexico City. Copies of this work vary in their content.
