Catalogue Note
The map incorporates the famous 'Restitutio View' of New York, which was one of the earliest printed views of New York, celebrating the (short-lived) Dutch recapture of the city from the British in 1673. Compared with the inset on the Visscher map (lot 133), Manhattan is now a more organised, and fortified, settlement.
