Catalogue Note

Rare in this edition. "In 1589 [Villamont] embarked from Venice to Cyprus, Egypt and Syria, returning to Paris in 1590. He produced this account of his travels, recording not only his own experiences, but including material from what he had read... Book I contains an account of his travels from Brittany to Venice; book II includes the Greek archipelago and Jerusalem, while book III describes Syria and Egypt" (Blackmer).

Yerasimos, Les Voyageurs dans l'Empire Ottoman (Ankara, 1991), lists three revised Rouen editions in 1610, 1613 and 1618, and the present copy is presumably one of these.
