Catalogue Note
These rare private photographs include Salah Salem's visit to Saudi Arabia in 1956, taken by a member of the Egyptian delegation, when Salem helped form an alliance between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. They show Salem's arrival at Riyadh airport, King Saud's reception, his entourage, and various dignitaries and officials. King Saud's first anniversary celebrations of his accession to the throne are the subject of another set of photographs and others show King Saud at a school ceremony in Ad-Derman, Madinah in June 1954. Other photographs show places visited while travelling in Saudi Arabia by motor car, including Makkah and al-Madinah.
