Catalogue Note

These prints come from Admiral Paris's rare illustrated work on maritime vessels of the world, first published with the title Essai sur la Construction Navale in 1841. Paris served on two of the French expeditions to the Pacific; in the Astrolabe under Dumont d'Urville (1828-1829), and La Favorite and Artémise under Laplace (1829-1831).
