Catalogue Note

An important work, containing "the first really modern map of Arabia" (Tibbetts). D'Anville's description of Egypt, the Red Sea and the Hejaz derives in part from earlier works by Pococke, Norden, Père Sicard and others. The map of the Hejaz is of especial interest for its placement of the Holy Cities and for its inset plan of the port of Jeddah.
