Condition

Overall in very good condition. This chandelier was recently removed from its origjnal residence in Rochester, NY, and was en suite with the Moorish style sconces offered in lot 231 of this sale. The eight favrile glass shades are all in very good condition, and represent a very harmonious set which are consistent in form, color and iridescence. As expected, there are a few minute edge flecks to only a few of the top apertures of the shades (which are not at all visible when the shades are installed), and a few of the shades with some very fine and light exterior surface scratches. There are no visible cracks to the large green turtleback tiles in the upper crown of the chandelier. These large turtleback tiles are intensely iridized and display spectacular color and luminosity. The suspended balls which are leaded with iridized turtleback glass are in remarkable condition, and also display spectacular color and luminosity to their iridescent surfaces. There are a few occasional small and shallow surface flecks to some of these glass elements. All of the bronze chains and balls are intact and appear original and undisturbed. The bronze elements of the chandelier display an incredibly deep and rich green russet brown patina, showing minimal gentle surface wear and rubbing consistent with age and gentle use. The four bronze support arms which connect the chandelier to the ceiling cap with some abrasions marks to the patinated bronze surfaces. All of the hardware, ceiling cap and sockets appear to be original and undisturbed. Two of the sockets are missing their socket insulator caps along the outer perimeter edge. With some occasional minute paint drips scattered throughout. An outstanding example of this rare early Moorish chandelier design in remarkable original condition. The chandelier is incredibly visual and displays beautifully in person.
