Half-titles, 2 frontispieces, 10 engraved plates comprising illustrative scenes within historiated borders, the scenes hand-colored, 5 full-page engraved maps, 8 head- and tailpieces, a title-page vignette (repeated in vol. 2), one full-page diagram, all by Rex Whistler, with an extra set of the plates; first endpapers detached. Antique brown morocco, blind-tooled at bands, brass clasps and catches, gilt-ruled turn-ins, edges gilt, by Wood of London, the extra plates enclosed in a chemise of the same style; spines darkened, some scratches and soiling on the chemise.
