Text in Spanish and French, half-title, additional chromolithographed pictorial title, 46 plates (3 with two images to the page), all but 4 chromolithographed or hand-coloured, captioned in Spanish, French and English, nearly all with guard tissue, folding colored plan of Mexico City dated 1875, folding coloured map of the country of Mexico dated 1872; text leaves lightly browned, some mostly marginal spotting in plates, half-title frayed. Publisher's purple pebbled cloth, gilt-stamped title on upper cover with date "1878"; edges and joints worn, a few stains on covers.

a fine pictorial record of mexico with ''draughtsmanship and lithography of a very high quality'' (Abbey).
This work was first published during 1855-57 with 41 tinted views on 38 plates. It was extended in 1864 with additional plates, the map and the plan (as here). Later issues, such as the one offered here, have most of the plates coloured.
