Catalogue Note
Large paper copy. Williams (1773-1829), a Scottish landscape painter, returned from an extended tour of Greece and Italy in 1818, producing many paintings of Greece which earned him the sobriquet "Grecian Williams." The work was published in parts starting in 1824 and in several formats in 1829. This is the deluxe folio edition possibly bound from parts.
Carss & Co. is described by Dibdin as "the favourite bookbinder among the cognoscenti at Glasgow".
