Colored copy, from the library of "the father of modern advertising." Abbey was of the opinion that the number of colored copies "would not have exceeded seven or eight" which opinion is affirmed by Friedman. The words "Engraver to Her Majesty" appear below the name of Tomkins on the dedication.

Thomas J. Barratt (1841-1914), chairman of the soap manufacturer A. & F. Pears, instituted a systematic method of combining slogans and images (many of which were taken from known art works) in his advertising, creating a strong brand image for his firm.
