Full blue calf cathedral binding by [?Henry]  Megarey, central panel embossed in blind, rich gilt border, the spine in 6 compartments gilt with raised bands (one reserved for lettering), marbled endpapers and edges; upper covers of vols. 5-6 slightly rubbed.

Catalogue Note

A fine example of a cathedral binding by Megarey of New York City, using a Gothic window as the central panel. This set was displayed in a 1907 exhibition at the Grolier Club entitled Ornamental Leather Bookbindings Executed in America before 1850.
