Oblong folio album (11 1/4 x 16 7/8 in.; 285 x 428 mm), containing gilt-printed title-page (as above) and 7 leaves with 6 large and 3 small highly detailed freehand black silhouettes lightly tipped to them, interleaved, signed and dated on the final leaf (with the 3 smaller silhouttes) "Miss de Godefroy-Ménilglaise, 1849." Contemporary purple morocco, gilt-panelled, front cover gilt-lettered ems.

Catalogue Note

A virtuosic album of intricate silhouettes, including hunting, coaching, and wildlife scenes. The largest tableau (a family resting at an oasis with a giraffe) is approximately 12 x 9 inches; the smallest (a dancing bear and his trainer) only about 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches.
