An Illuminated Copy of Sa'adi's Diwan, Persia, Dated 1244 AH/1828 AD



320 leaves (9 3/8 x 5 3/4 in.; 239 x 138 mm). 15 lines within gold borders and surrouding commentary, finely illuminated text opening and sub-headings; final leaves torn at margins, occasional marginal repair, one leaf loose. Contemporary Persian lacquer binding, the covers with painted floral design, the inner covers with paintings of a flowering plant against a red ground; rebacked in black morocco, worn at extremities, a bit darkened.



Accompanied by a nineteenth-century Persian mirror box, board, the covers with embossed and painted vignettes of a falconer and a huntsman; worn at extremities.
