Catalogue Note

One of the rare early issues of this famous collection, reproducing Rubens' allegorical paintings of the life of Marie de Medicis (1573-1642), consort of Henri IV, which adorned the gallery of the Luxembourg Palace. The cycle was first reproduced in a volume published in 1710,  while the present edition is one of the first publications with printed colored plates after paintings by a famous artist.
