Oblong folio (16 5/8 x 23 1/2 in.; 422 x 596 mm). Lithographed title in sepia, 29 chromolithographed plates by Preziosi printed on thick paper with paper guards; lacking contents leaf, some light marginal foxing. Contemporary brown pebbled cloth, blindstamped arabesque frame and gilt-stamped title in Turkish on upper cover; extremities rubbed, head and foot of spine chipped.

Catalogue Note

First edition, with plates unnumbered, signed and dated 1857 or 1858 by the artist in the plates. Preziosi was a popular commercial artist from Malta resident in Constantinople, famous for his views and depictions of local costume.
