Catalogue Note

First edition, the Duchesse de Berry's copy. Pertusier served for several years in Constantinople as aide-de-camp to General Andreossy who was French ambassador to the Porte, 1811–1814. "The atlas (which is of some rarity) contains fine and very interesting plates by Michel-François Preault ... an architect who had travelled to Constantinople in 1796 with a French company of engineers engaged to construct new army and navy barracks ... The drawings he produced for Pertusier, engraved by Pringer, are among his finest" (Blackmer).
