Catalogue Note

"Nicholson and James Pryde, together known as the Beggarstaff Brothers, fostered the revival of the woodcut in modern English art and strongly influenced poster and commercial design" (Garvey, The Artist and the Book, p. 149). His Alphabet shows the austere yet whimsical design for which he is renowned. The present copy is a scarce issue not noted by Garvey or Ray.
