1. Napoleon Bonaparte. Manuscript document signed ("Bonaparte"), countersigned by the Minister of War and Secretary of State, on vellum (17 1/2 x 13 3/4 in.; 445 x 350 mm) with engraved goddess and "Republique Française, Départment de la Guerre" heading, Paris, 24 Nivose An 12 [15 January 1804] papered seal. Bonaparte as Consul of the Republic appoints Joachim Murat (1767-1815) governor of the city of Paris, and commander of the garrison and first military division.
2. Charles Victor Emmanuel Leclerc. Document signed ("Leclerc"), 2 pages (11 3/4 x 7 3/4 in.; 298 x 196 mm), Milan, 4 frimaire an 6 [24 November 1797], to Division General Dumas, asking urgently for nominees for the position of second War Councillor. With an engraved portrait laid in.
3. Louis Napoleon, Prince Imperial. Autograph letter signed ("Napoleon"), 4 pages (8 x 5 1/8 in.; 204 x 130 mm), to his old friend Louis Conneau (1856-1930), Maritzburg, South Africa, 20 April 1879, with English translation laid in. On his military experiences and his views on the Imperialist party. The year date 1889 has been corrected to 1879 in his hand. He was killed at Maritzburg 20 November 1879.
4. Barthélemy Catherine Joubert (1769-1799). Autograph letter signed ("Joubert"), 2 pages (12 3/8 x 8 1/4 in.; 315 x 210 mm), to Giovanni Battista Cervoni (1765-1809) at Menton, Ceriale, [Liguria], 24 Thermidor an 5 [11 August 1797]. News of his campaign.
5. Hortense de Beauharnais (1783-1837), Queen of Holland.
Autograph letter signed ("H"), 2 pages (7 1/2 x 6 in.; 190 x 150 mm), to an unnamed intime, [Arenenberg, Thurgau, Switzerland], 19 June 1819, small fold tear. On her life at Arenberg, acquisition of paintings by Robert Lefevre (1755-1830).
