Exemplaire de tête. Copy 1 on japon impérial, signed by Marcoussis and with extra suites of plates (of a whole edition of 77).
Each plate is included in all its states in an extra suite comprising 42 plates, all numbered and signed by Marcoussis. The number of states for each illustration varies from 1 to 5. In addition another suite of the plates in their final state is included, each signed and numbered 1/11. These accompanied the 11 copies on japon impérial. In addition, a set of cancelled plates, all signed, is present.
Planches de salut is one of the most delightful of all Cubist illustrated books. The artist illustrates quotations by favorite authors, including Shakespeare, Baudelaire, Dostoyevsky, Hölderlin, Rimbaud, and Apollinaire.
